Through an analysis of the remote job posting histories of more than 54,000 companies in the FlexJobs database, we’ve pinpointed the companies that offered more remote-friendly positions than any others. “Remote-friendly” means the openings must offer some level of remote work (the levels on our site are “100% remote work,” “partial remote work,” or “option for remote work”).
For professionals interested in remote work options in 2020, this list is a great place to start your research!

Notable Info from the 100 Top Companies and the Remote Job Market
“The most notable change we’ve seen over the past year is not so much the growth in the sheer volume of remote job listings, but the growth in the variety of remote job titles these companies are seeking to hire,” said Sara Sutton, Founder and CEO of FlexJobs.
“Companies are expanding the range of professional positions they’re allowing to work from home. It’s important to keep in mind that this list represents the jobs that are only formally reported and advertised as remote. I believe the true scope of remote work is much larger, with informal and ad hoc work-from-home arrangements increasingly common. Of course, all of this is ultimately fantastic news for remote job seekers across all career fields and levels,” Sutton concluded.
Top Career Fields for Remote Work
Healthcare and computer/IT continue to be the most promising career fields for remote-friendly jobs, while the education industry has also enjoyed sustained growth in its remote job opportunities. Sales and customer service remain strong prospects for remote jobs, with virtual assistants, in particular, seeing higher demand. Remote work is also being more widely adopted across the fields of business, accounting, and finance.

What Job Seekers Are Saying About Remote Work
FlexJobs hears frequently from successful members who found a remote job using our services. Here’s what a few had to say about the benefits they’ve received from having a remote job:
“I love the extra time I save by not commuting. I save money by not buying a bunch of work clothes, and I don’t eat out as much. … My office chair is much more comfortable and the lighting is perfect. I can take a five-minute break in my own backyard. In my last office they were moving towards the more open seating/no walls concept … and it is so distracting to me. I get so much more done in a quiet environment. I love the extra time and money savings.” —Dawn P.
“Having a remote position allows me to travel whenever and wherever I want, as well as build an ideal work-life balance. … It will allow me to build a life that I truly enjoy with the freedom that comes from being able to work remotely.” —Monet S.
“I had made the decision to take a short work break. I was running on fumes after several years of constant business travel and my dad’s cancer battle in the midst of it. In considering my next steps, I really wanted a remote job to enhance work-life balance. … I can eat lunch at home [and] get outside a bit at breaks during the day. I can help my mom with occasional doctor’s appointments and such, without having to ask for the time off and the accompanying office reputation that can come with supporting family needs.” —Sid M.
“I wanted to find a more flexible job because my husband is in the Air Force. With the unpredictable nature of his job, I wanted something of my own that I could do that wasn’t tied to a specific location. This job makes my life better because it actually provides me with the opportunity to work in a professional environment, there is room for me to grow with the company, and I am doing work that actually matters.” —Danielle V.
Finding a Remote Job
The number of people telecommuting in the U.S. increased 159% between 2005 and 2017. If you’re interested in working from home, there’s no better time to start searching for remote jobs.
Research Companies
Check out the companies you admire most, the products/services you use on a regular basis, and both local and far-away companies. Scan their websites for mentions of “flexible work programs,” “work-life balance,” or key phrases like “remote work,” “distributed teams,” and “home-based.” You might be surprised at how many offer remote work options.
Focus on Keywords
In searching for remote jobs online, you’re going to find a lot of scams. If you want to work from home, use keywords like “telecommute job,” “remote job,” “distributed team,” and “virtual job.” Avoid phrases that scammers use, specifically “work from home” and “work at home.”
Feature Remote Work Skills
Add your remote job-friendly skills to your resume, cover letter, and online profiles, such as independent work, time management, written and verbal communication, troubleshooting abilities, and proactivity with questions and ideas. Include a list of remote-specific technology you’re familiar with, such as IM programs (Slack, Google Chat), file sharing (Dropbox), document collaboration (Google Drive), video conferencing (Zoom, GoToMeeting, Skype), and other remote collaboration tools.
